OMNI Television is proud to present the world television premiere of So Far From Home (Journalists in Exile), as part of its Signature Series. The English language version of this one hour documentary launches on OMNI.1, Sunday, September 27th at 9:00 p.m. ET.

From Willing Mind Productions, So Far From Home tells the stories of five reporters from regions of major conflict – Afghanistan, Eritrea, Iran, Pakistan and Uganda -- whose pursuit of journalistic excellence led not to fame, but to exile.

“These journalists worked without a safety net,” says Vladimir Kabelik, Writer, Director and Producer of So Far From Home. “Where in the West a reporter’s pursuit of the truth might win an award, these five garnered threats from those who didn’t want their stories told. Now, their stories can be told -- thank you, OMNI Television!”

So Far From Home will feature a rare glimpse into the world of international journalism, through the experiences of:

• Mohsin Abbas – imprisoned and tortured for his critique of Pakistan’s warlords;
• Aaron Berhane – his independent newspaper, Eritrea’s first and only, was shut down;
• Nik Kowsar – political cartoonist from Iran;
• Mir Mahdavi – if not for intervention by the United Nations he would be executed;
• Mike Odongkara – a photographer, targeted by Ugandan authorities.

“Many Canadians can’t imagine, let alone experience, what journalists in other parts of the world must endure for their craft,” says Madeline Ziniak, National Vice President of OMNI Television. “We are pleased to support So Far From Home with 100% funding from OMNI’s Independent Producers Initiative as the stories portrayed are truly history in our time.”

For enhanced reach, So Far From Home was versioned in Arabic as well as English. Both language versions will be aired on OMNI throughout its network of stations.

So Far From Home was exclusively funded through OMNI's Independent Producers Initiative, a $32.5 million independent production fund that to date has supported over 200 new documentary programmes. Interested producers can access funding criteria at OMNI Television’s web sitewww.OMNItv.ca .
